I have Win XP Home Edition and when I try to use my cntrl,
alt, delete buttons to bring up my task manager I get the
end process screen instead. Any ideas why?

Open Task Manager and double-click anywhere on the top Window border.
Somehow, you managed to convert Task Manager to run in "Tiny Footprint Mode".
