I am trying to import my mails and folders from Outlook Express to MS Outlook
2003. But getting an error "The mail folder could not be opened. If another
application is using this file, please close it and try again". What I had
done is, I had copied OE files from another PC into a new folder on a new PC.
I am sure that no other application is using these files. I also searched the
web for this issue, and am sure that I am doing everything right. But still
not been able to import these files. I have imported .pst files before
without any trouble. I think OE left some file locked, but if thats the case,
I had not been able to copy it. I am not sure but any help to resolve this
issue is appreciated.

Thanks,

You cannot directly import dbx files into Outlook, you will need to restore
them to Outlook Express and then export from Outlook Express into Outlook
(dont import from Outlook)

Thank you for your response, Noel.

The problem now I face is that I no longer have Outlook Express on my PC
anymore. I converted it into a Linux WS. The other PC which runs WinXP has
Outlook 2K3. Is there a work around?

Thanks,
Rahul.

Hi Rahul,
Not sure I am following this but are you saying that the computer that you
copied the dbx files to hasn't got Outlook Express on!

Outlook will not work properly unless Outlook Express is installed on
the computer, as Outlook uses some of OE's files. There is no
work-around.

Thanks a lot Noel. My apologies for late replying as I was travelling and
could not work on to resolve this issue.

Back to the issue. with your helpful suggestion, I was able to export files
to Outlook. In all my excitement I forgot that I had removed icons of OE from
winXP when I installed it. Now, import was successful, and I'm able to get
all my old e-mails.

Thanks a lot for your help.
Rahul.

Great, glad its all okay now
