enable System Restore

After first installation, System Restore worked perfectly, and I installed
several restore points. Then it "disabled itself" and I cannot get it going
again. Downloaded Windows Media Player 10, but could not finish the
installation because System Restore was requested. Is there anyone who knows
how to enable System Restore? The error message indicated "driver is
enabled/missing" at start-up menu.

Please post the exact error as seen on the screen ("driver is
enabled/missing" ?) Meanwhile, try clearing all the Restore points and
re-enable System Restore.

1.Go to system contents in control panel to enable it.........
2.Don't install player...........
3.Reinstall your computer and don't use your restore anymore.....

The exact error message was: "System Restore encountered an error trying to
enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine and try
again." The most detailed information came from the Symantec instructions.
But, nothing works. I cannot try clearing all Restore points because they
are all gone when System Restore turned itself off. Do you have any other
idea how I could get this going? I do not want to reformat my hard drive
and
reinstall all the stuff I have on it (I also lose my pictures if I try to go
that route). Do you have any other ideas?
Thanks, Ramesh, for your efforts.

Hi, Ramesh!

Still no success with System Restore. Is reformatting the hard drive and
reinstalling Windows XP the only solution? In XP, this is very dangerous
because some backups cannot be made, and what XP deletes in the
reinstallation process is totally unpredictable.

Thank you, Gustav

Gustav,

Have you tried checking the Event Logs. It may denote the filename which is
causing System Restore to fail.
