Restore Function WON'T restore!

Whenever I attempt to restore my system to the last automatic system restore
point, it always comes back as "restore failed". I would like to restore my
system to a point prior to updating Windows Media Player 10
as it has messed up all my downloaded songs (as per my earlier post).

I've tried the restore function several times in the past and it always
fails. Why does this happen?
