System Restore problem

A virus scan shows a virus in my system restore which cannot be fixed. I
tried to delete all restore points and have received the message "System
restore has encountered a problem trying to enable/disable one or more drives
- restart computer and try again".
I have tried several times with the same result. Any suggestions welcome.

First make sure that the virus is completely off your system with the
exception of restore.
Then go to MYComputer/properties and turn Restore off....this deletes all
restore points
reboot..........and do another virus check....it now should be gone.
Turn restore back on and create a restore point while your system is still
clean.

Hi Peter
Tried that. I once had the same problem and that method worked OK.
This time I cannot access System Restore to turn it off. That's when I get
the message. What I need is a way of working round this and turning off
system restore some other way.

Try going back to System Restore and turn it off at the drive level.Tell it
not to monitor any drive
Then do a clean up on each drive ...this should delete all but the last
restore point.
Restart and do a virus scan..........

If this does not work try entering XP in Safe mode..f8 at boot
