Empty temporary internet files

The "Empty temporary internet files" on closing browser doesn't delete
the temporary internet files when the browser is closed.

Is Outlook Express still open? If yes, they won't delete until OE is
closed.

Also... Only deletes the content of
C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files but not the Content.IE5 or Content.MSO folders.

To delete *all* Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop.
Or: Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options.
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box Delete all offline content {This cleans >> C:\Documents
and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files AND
C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 and \Content.MSO
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
-----

If you want, try this: Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
scroll down to the bottom | check: Empty Temporary Internet Files folder
when browser is closed | click Apply | OK. Entirely up to you, but if you
want to be rid of this, it is done automatically. Deletes the content of
C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files but not the Content.IE5 or Content.MSO folders.

Also: Start IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab | Days to keep
pages in history: 0 | Apply | OK.

None of the below mentioned items delete all of the TIF. They may
appear to be delete, put when you check the properties of the TIF
folder it still has a size over 8 meg.
They only way I have found to delete the TIF files is to set your
computer up with a shared drive. Then access the computer across a
local area network with a Windows 98 computer(xp will not work). You
can then browse to the TIF folder with the Windows 98 machine and
delete the TIF files. I have the size of the TIF set to a max of 4
meg. This doesn't work either.

Bob,

You are not doing something correctly.

My C:\DOCUME~1\WESLEY~1.VOG\LOCALS~1\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
right now has 144 KB (147,523 bytes). That is because it has two files in
it. The Desktop.ini is 67 bytes (67 bytes). An the index.dat is 144 KB
(147,456 bytes). The next time I reboot the index.dat file will 32KB.

Did you check the box: Delete all offline content??? If you do not check
that box, you will have just what you describe. Content.IE5 will *not* get
cleaned out.

If you do not delete cookies you will also have shortcuts to those in the
TIFs folder. That isn't going to add up to 8 meg.

Change Your Name Here in the following >>>
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5

Start | Run | Paste in the above | OK
