Embarrassing problem for network administrator

XP is a funny creature!
I have been working as a Small Biz IT Consultant for many years.
This one has stumped me.

Environment:
Server: Windows NT 4 Domain (SP6?)
Hardware: very old Dell Server
Workstations: mixed (Win98, Win2000, WinXP)
SOHO Firewall is the DHCP server

Problem:
I joined the XP Pro workstation (laptop) to the domain.

THIS I CAN DO
I *can* access files and printers.
I *cannot* access the Internet.

THIS I CANNOT DO
I *cannot* ping outside the internal network.
I *cannot* access the Internet.

I have tried running the XP laptop as a DHCP client and manually
configuring the IP, gateway, and DHCP servers based on what is working
for all the other workstations. I actually had 4 DHCP servers in
there at one time. The IP of the XP laptop is a 192.168.26.x subnet.

I tried configuring the Internet Explorer settings and running thru
the wizard and making sure no firewall is configured on the local
machine. I have tired it logging on locally as admin and as the
domain admin. I had the brower to automatically detect and then with
no check marks. There is no proxy server on this network.

I have tired....
NET NETLOGON STOP
IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS
IPCONFIG /REGISTERDNS
NET NETLOGON START

Not sure if this helps since there is NO internal DNS server.

I have tried adjusting the NETBIOS settings on the WINS tab.
I have tired every thing I know.

The only other thing is that this computer does have a wireless
adapter.
But it shows not connected.
There was a BRIDGE in there and I deleted that so the under LAN or
High Speed Internet there is LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and 1394
connection.

I also tried rebooting and disabling and reenabling the connection.

IDEAS?

TIA,
Frank

I am having the same exact problem, no light I can shed,
