I have windows XP set up with 2 users (parents and kids). When I get to the
screen to select a user, I see how many unread emails I have in my hotmail
account. I do not want to see this. My question is how do I remove this
from windows. Also, I want to get rid of this hotmail email account and
cannot because my PC is accessing this email account.

You don't delete a hotmail account. You just stop using (accessing) it.
After a while, the account will be dropped off of the Microsoft servers for
non-use.

TweakUI for Windows XP, Logon section. Run the utility from each user account and disable this feature.
