Email Shortcut in Start menu no longer works

The shortcut for email in the start menu no longer works for me. When i go to
customize the start menu, the drop down box that usually lists email
apps(Windows Mail, Hotmail etc) is empty. It wasn't like that before. I think
it has to do with CCleaner, because it was the latest program i installed
before the email link stopped working. It must have cleared the list of email
apps. I was wondering if there is a way to bring back the full functionality
of the email shortcut, because i frequently use it. Thanks.

You can find the particular app that you want, right click it, and select
"Pin to Start Menu", or "Add to Quick Launch".

Enter the name of the app you want into Start Menu's search bar, then
just right click the result you want from there and add it to the Start Menu.

You also might want to uncheck "Windows Explorer" and "Advanced"
under Crap Cleaner's options of things to clean.

Did you not make backup copies of the registry entries you allowed it to
delete? It offers the option to back them up unless you disabled it.

From CCleaner FAQ:

How do I restore registry backups?
http://www.ccleaner.com/help/faq/show/?How_do_I_restore_registry_backups

If that does not help, then try this:

Click Start, type the following command and press ENTER:

cmd /k reg query hklm\software\clients\mail /s

Copy the output and include them in your reply.

Thanks for your replies. I tried typing the command in, and this was what cmd
said:

ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value.

As for registry backups, i don't have any. I choose the option not to backup
registry jeys in CCleaner.

Looks like the entire "hklm\software\clients\mail" branch has been deleted somehow. To reinstate the specified branch and sub-keys, you may use the REG file here:

http://www.winhelponline.com/fixes/mailclients.reg

Download and save it to Desktop. Right-click the file and choose "Merge".

Thankyou for this fix. It worked! I was wondering if you know what settings
in CCleaner caused this so that i can avoid it in the future. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, k1190. I don't use CCleaner, so don't know if it causes the problem or not. Anyway, it's a good idea to enable the "backup" feature that you disabled earlier in CCleaner.
