Email reception in Outlook 2000

With outlook 2000 on a Win2000 Pro system using Exchange 2000 email is not
automatically received until another email is selected. I know this sounds
strange, but I sent an email and it was not automatically received until I
selected another email. Only then did the sent email come through. I sent
one email internally and one externally. Both of them did not come into the
clients Outlook until I select another already received email.

I did uninstall Office 2000 and then reinstalled it with the same results.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
 
You cannot receive a new e-mail notifications in Outlook 2000 when you use
the Network Address Translation:

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
