Can anyone recommend a Windows program that can periodically check
a POP3 mailbox and delete selected emails based on a simple filter
list without need for user confirmation or other intervention?

If U are using Windows O.S.
Magic Mail Monitor can do this!

I use it until 2002 and it works fine for me!
filters are very easy to set. (a couple of txt files!)

Seconded. A great little prog. And it also works with FreePops
to deal with web based e-mail - hotmail and 100 others.

What operating system & email client or web based method are you using?

Sorry about that: Windows XP / Opera 7.54 (POP3).

Since asking, someone elsewhere pointed me at PopTray, which does what
I want and quite a bit more. I'd like to find something smaller which
uses less memory.

Many thanks for that. I've had a look at several of these and PopTray
looks like the best of the lot, though I've yet to give Magic Mail
Monitor a full trial.
