new clean install Vista (business)
new clean install office 2007 ultimate
imported pst
all data there
but email to any distribution list or using the function to email directly
to contact from toolbar does not work.
I "fixed" the distribution lists (the said they had moved, ok) but still not
go. this is not just for the distribtion lists, but for any individual
contact as well. the email goes out, but is never passed to the smtp server,
just bounced back to my in box with the invalid recipient message.
if I manually type in the email to the exact same email address the email
sends fine

You should never import a PST file unless you want problems like this. Do
you still have the original file? If so, open it in Outlook and set it as
the default.
If not, then you have corrupted your profile beyond repair and must create a
new one. Repair your current PST file before you do and try to use it in the
new profile.

Never import from a PST. You lose data. DLs are one of the items that will
not import.
It sounds like your Outlook Address Book service is not working correctly.
Try removing it and readding it. Use Control Panel's Mail applet with
Outlook closed.

No can do, Brian. Inexplicably, the ability to remove and re-add the Outlook
Address Book service was left out of Outlook 2007. That's why the only
solution is to create a new profile from scratch, migrate data correctly,
and make sure the Outlook Address Book Service is configured correctly.

Thanks for all the advice...
I do have the original pst... will set it as default...
Later after I have a good adventure to look at a piano!
thanks again

Alright the piano was a bust...
the odd thing is that this was my usual method for transfering files between
my laptop and my main box in the past with XP and office 2003. too bad they
busted it with Vista and 2007....

More info...
Yes I have the original pst, though it is about a week old now, not a big
deal if I loose it, will try a few other things first
Russ,
"You should never import a PST file unless you want problems like
this...snip...
If not, then you have corrupted your profile beyond repair"
I gotta love the frank nature of that reply...ROFL...lord protect the users
from actually attempting to use the tools provided with the software

2) This is not just an issue with the DL's, While in contacts if I use the
toolbar tool to "email contact" I get the same result = a message in my inbox
from "system Administrator" Undeliverable. Your message did not reach some or
all of the intended recipients.

Subject: test please delete
Sent: 6/15/2007 6:45 PM

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

'<ValidEmailAddress> ' on 6/15/2007 6:45 PM
Invalid recipient

<emailaddress> added to protect the innocent.

Looking at the header of this, there is no header to the message, it was
never sent.

Also, While it may be an issue with the address book because this is a clean
install, the main address book is empty. My address book is set to look at my
contacts...

3) Use Control Panel's Mail applet with
Outlook closed. [to remove address book] (despite a Russ saying I could not
do this, i did it anyway...because I was not deleting the parent address book
because it is empty, but deleting the contacts as address book... will go now
and attempt to add it again and see what happens

Removing and re-adding the Outlook Address Book Service is no longer an
option in Outlook 2007. That is why you cannot repair the profile and must
create a new one.
What you missed is that once you change to a different PST file, you must
then configure the Outlook Address Book Service to use it instead of the new
default one that a new profile creates.

And you've told me that before. So far, it hasn't stuck. Perhaps this time
it will.
