Email in outlook XP

I had an email account set up in outlook express
I installed out look XP, and know I can get email, but outgoing says it
times out waiting for response from SMTP.
when I go to outlook express on the same macine out going and incoming both
work, but in outlook xp, I get incoming outgoing times out

the email account from an ATT DSL.... can anyone help?

Check your authentication settings in the account properties. Use the Test
Account Settings to see what error message you are getting.

account will be deleted without reading.

it turned out that I needed to get a patch.. sp3 I think.
