You did not enter use the FULL name for the POP3 server host. Just "pop3"
is not what your mail server is called. Ask your e-mail provider (Verizon)
or use their help web pages on setting up e-mail accounts and to find what
are the FULL names for the POP3 and SMTP server hosts.

Go to your ISP's support page and find what the correct mail server
is. You look as though you have given the name POP3 as the server,
which is incorrect.

You're right, but I have a question on where to go to find the full
addresses. My bar at the top of my webpage says 'Microsoft IE provided by
Comcast' but I got that before I moved, my provider here is Vverizon DSL,
though it still says MS IE at the top. Yet I made no changes to my Hotmail
account and it works fine (though I want Outlook). Does this question make
sense?

Hotmail discontinued using POP3 and SMTP servers back around 1999.
Microsoft switched to using the WebDAV scripting that their mail server and
clients (Outlook and Outlook Express) will use to communicate with each
other. So you don't use POP3 with Hotmail. You define an HTTPmail account
in Outlook [Express]. However, if the Hotmail account was created after
29-Nov-2004 then the freebie accounts no longer get WebDAV access to
Hotmail. You need a *PAID* Hotmail account to use WebDAV in Outlook
[Express] when defining an HTTPmail account.

Are you trying to connect to Hotmail or to Verizon's POP3 mail server host?

As far as the title in the IE titlebar, that is called "branding", see
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/ispunbrand.htm.

It may make some sense but it has nothing to do with your original
question.
The title page is purely cosmetic.
How to Change the Internet Explorer Window Title

Hotmail is also not relevant, assuming you are using web mail.
Go to Verizon's support and find out the mail server names and insert
them in Outlook Express (I assume from your first post you mean that,
as Outlook is a different program)

I'd like to tie into my Hotmail but don't know how. I just got off the phone
with Verizon and unless I have a (e-mail address removed) emaol address then no go.
I'd like to just keep my (e-mail address removed). Obviously I'm lost on what to do. I can
just stick w/ my Hotmail access to my MSN email but I like many Outlook
features. Any 'words of wisdom' here???

I just spoke w/ Verizon. I can't use a (e-mail address removed) account, got to have a
(e-mail address removed) one. That defeats my (seemingly unlikely) goal.

A

Alan Edwards

?? What goal? I thought you wanted to use OE as an email client.
What is wrong with using a (e-mail address removed) name?
If you want to use MSN on OE, then it looks like you will have to pay
for it. (Sorry, I haven't touched MSN for a decade)

Still comes back to the question you haven't answered: Is your Hotmail/MSN
account a *paid* account? MSN uses Hotmail for its e-mail service. I've
never bothered with MSN as an ISP so I cannot say whether MSN includes a
*paid* Hotmail account.

The goal was to use my (e-mail address removed), not a (e-mail address removed) address, which they
want to charge me for. My old Comcast cable let me use msn/hotmail, Verizon
said they won't.

E-mail account(s) are included with a Verizon account (you get 9 of them
according to http://tinyurl.com/e4atq). If you want to use your msn.com
e-mail account (which uses Hotmail), do you actually have a *paid*
MSN/Hotmail account? If it was a paid account, did you terminate it when
switching to Verizon (which means that you no longer have a paid account
with MSN/Hotmail)?
