Email contact list

How do I get my (lengthy) email contact list from my old
WinME computer to my new WinXP computer, I think I've
tried to import/export about as many different times and
ways as I care to, but none of them seem to do anything.
What am I doing wrong? M

Well, the only thing you left out is what program (application) you have
these contacts in...?

Well, as IE6 doesn't do contacts.. I have to assume you mean Outlook Express
6.X?

You can export your Address Book contacts to other Windows Address Book
(.wab) files, as well as to Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book, or any
text (.csv) file.

To export your Address Book files to another Windows Address Book:

In Address Book, on the File menu, point to Export, and then click Address
Book (WAB).
Locate and select the Windows Address Book file you want to export to, and
then click Open.
For all other address book formats:

In the Address Book, on the File menu, point to Export, and then click Other
Address Book.
Click the address book or file type you want to export to, and then click
Export.

For your case, I would use WAB.. But CSV would work as well.

You can import address book contacts from other Windows Address Book files
(.wab), as well as from Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Exchange Personal
Address Book, or any text (.csv) file.

For Windows Address Book files:

In Address Book, on the File menu, point to Import, and then click Address
Book (WAB).
Locate and select the address book you want to import, and then click Open.
For all other address book formats:

In the Address Book, on the File menu, point to Import, and then click Other
Address Book.
Click the address book or file type you want to import, and then click
Import.
If your address book is not listed, you can export it to either a text
(.csv) file or an LDIF (LDAP Directory Interchange Format) file, and then
import it using that file type.

This is, of course, after you have copied the exported file to the new
machine.

XP has this slick functionality to "transfer files and
settings" that allows you to transfer your entire Email
history, including contact list, as well as data files
from your old computer to your new one. To do this, put
your XP disk in your old computer and at the menu, click
on "perform additional tasks". Then, at the next menu
click on "transfer files and settings". Follow the
intructions from there. I just did it and it works
brilliantly. Good luck.
