email and qwestoffice

After being switched to qwestoffice by qwest.net we are having problems with
sending out email. We are using SBS2003. We can receive email with no
problems, it is just trying to send email. When quest gave us the
instructins they were to change incoming to pop.qwestoffice.net and outgoing
to smtp.qestoffice.net which was done. Additionally the smtp server requires
authentication to be enabled and requires a secure connection (SSL) on port
465.
Any help would be apppreciated in troubleshooting a correction. Thanks
Jerry P

so... did you set up the port and ssl settings in outlook? (they are under
more settings when setting up the account)
And you say sbs2003, is that just outlook, or are you trying to do this
through exchange?

So PROVE that you cannot send e-mail. If you cannot send, Outlook
would produce an error message, so show it here (don't describe, don't
paraphrase, don't abbreviate but show the entire message although you
might want to munge out the sender's account/user name).

Since you are paying Qwest for their e-mail service (and perhaps as
your ISP, too), what did THEY say when you called them for technical
support?

Qwest is our ISP and e-mail service, however, the idiots told me when I
called for tech support help that they were not familiar with SBS2003 or
exchange. I am using exchange server as part of SBS2003 to send e-mail.

You mention using Exchange and yet your mention POP3 in your original
post. So WHICH e-mail server are you really using? If using
Exchange, what does its log show for the mail session between it and
to whomever you are connecting as the receiving mail host?

You sure your ISP allows you to run a [mail] server on your network?
Do you have a business account with them that lets you run servers
(accessible to external sources from your intranet)? Maybe they are
blocking port 25 traffic from your host(s).

Since your Outlook clients do not have a problem connecting to your
Exchange server, and since you are using Exchange as your mail server,
your problem is not an Outlook (client) issue. You'll have to figure
out why Exchange cannot send e-mails - and that would be a discussion
to handle in an Exchange newsgroup.

Thanks, I will try and post in that newsgroup.
