Eliminating AOL presence from IE 6 sp1

My future mother in law has an ancient dell running windows 98, on which she
had used AOL dial up. She has recently switched SBC DLS, but I can't get rid
of the AOL IE browser (title bar says "MS IE provided by America Online".
The worst part of this is there is no where to directly enter a URL to
browse (no address window), despite checking all the view/tools options,
there seems no way to turn it on. IE version is 6 sp1 (newest) tried
reloading IE, still the AOL. Oddly, AOL does not appear in add/remove
programs. How can I get her a "regular" installation of IE, or at least turn
on the URL window so she can directly enter then go to an address?

TIA

To remove the AOL branding select the Start=>Run menu option and copy and
paste the following

rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear

then press OK on the Run dialog.

Also on the Internet Options Control panel, on the Programs tab you will
find a button to 'Reset Web Settings' .... this will change you search
settings back to MS defaults and complete the un-branding process.

Rob-Thanks so much for the reply, that got rid of the AOL nonsense, but I
still can't get an address bar, even though it's selected in view/toolbars.
I'd really like to get this set for her, any ideas?

TIA

A long time ago that happened to me and also to a co-
worker and the two solutions were simple ones. One or the
other may work for you:

Hover your mouse over the border between the toolbar and
the main area beneath it. When you finally see the two
headed arrow as your cursor, hold the left click button
down and drag the border downward. That should make the
squeezed-up address bar open for you again.

If that doesn't work, it may be that the sequence of
enabled toolbar items is large, causing your address bar
to be pushed aside by the others. Look for a little right-
pointing double arrow at either one end of the toolbar.
Right-click it to bring up a short menu of choices.
Choose "Customize" and from that screen you will be able
to disable any of the space-hogging toolbar items,
including those that are accessible via View > Toolbars
like the main ones are.
