edit from Windows Pic Viewer

I've read a number posts on this problem, where clicking "open picture for editing" (or
pressing ctrl-e) in windows picture viewer fails to do anything (it just closes).

I've yet to see a proper solution to this problem in the posts I've read, so I'm
wondering if anyone has managed to come up with a fix in the meantime? If not, is this
bug known to Microsoft and will it possibly be fixed in the up-coming SP2 release?

This bug is known to Microsoft and no solution has been posted so far. We
all hope it will be fixed with SP2.
Before this, right click on the photo file name and select Open with on the
opening menu and select the software you want to edit the file.
