The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

This sounds like your connection to the server goes through another internet
provider's equipment before it reaches the server. Such connections to
port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers. You can ask
roadrunner.com if their email server listens to any other port, so you can
avoid this problem by changing to another port.

So you were using your home ISP while at home? It's unusual to
get that error message under those circumstances.
Make sure you are authenticating:
Tools, Accounts, select the Roadrunner account, Properties,
Servers, check "My server requires authentication."

HERE IS THE EXAMPLE AND FOLLOW IT ACCORDINGLY. YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE RESOLVED.
ANOTHER SURE FIRE WAY IT WILL BE RESOLVED IS KEEP CALLING THE ISP THAT YOU
ARE PAYING FOR AND GET A TIER 3 TECHNICIAN:

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO ENTER THE SMTP IN WINDOWS MAIL:

FIRST GO TO ADD ACCOUNT AND THEN....

you will CHANGE the city and/or state to yours:

EX:

pop-server.____________.rr.com is the POP3 (INCOMING MAIL)
smtp-server.___________.rr.com is the SMTP (OUTGOING MAIL)

Leah, unless you are an expert in this field, it is better to leave the
advising to experts. For example, former Adelphia customers of
RoadRunner (like this OP) do not use the city/state geographic
designator in their server name.

Hey, Gary!

Thanks for looking out for me, but I do know a lot in this field. Also, I
know what the old RR POP3 and STMP used to be because I have had them for a
long time now. I have found in a lot of cases that customers with the old
servers need to change to the new ones I was advising them to use. I used to
work for Time Warner Tech Support in Texas and learned this there.

Also, BeeBee, you probably know by now that free mail servers such as Yahoo
do not work with Windows Mail.

Take care!

Leah

I'm having trouble finding authoritative information for Bell Canada's
mail servers. Give their tech support a call. I'm surprised they don't
provide you with that information when you sign up for service with them.
