E-mail with .mp3 background sound

Darrell

I've noticed that a .mp3 file will not play in the background of an e-mail
received by either the WLMD beta or Windows Live Mail account(Hotmail) but a
..wav file will play in the background. E-mails received and opened via the
Comcast website will play a .mp3 file in the background. When sending the
e-mail, I've tried changing the extension from .mp3 to .wav but that makes
no difference...it does not play. I'm applying the background sound by
opening a new Mail message, Format/Background/Sound then browsing to a .mp3
file. Is there anyway I can get an .mp3 file to play in the background for
messages sent to Windows Live Mail and WLMD?

You would have to use a stationery template pointing to the mp3 file. At this time, the only sound files that work using the method you outline would be a wav or mid file and the recipient would have to have scripting enabled and reading while in the Internet Zone which most users would not have. The scripting is indicated below and you can hear the music being "streamed" from my website.

Jim, thanks for the explanation. Could you explain to me why I could hear the mp3 file that was sent to the Comcast account and was accessed via comcast.net?

When I clicked on "Play", I did not hear your stream play from the website.

If you sent it to yourself, it could find the mp3 in the directory
referenced, but others users would not find it in that same file path on
their computers. If you could not hear the mp3 file in my message, it's
most likely that you are not running OE in the Internet Zone and in IE
Tools, you have scripting disabled.
