DXDiag Error in Test DirectDraw, anyone help ?

Hi,

Appologies, I've already posted in directx.graphics, was hoping perhaps a
broader base may have seen this issue....

I noticed I was having some probs with my system with regard to some older
games failing and NeroVision Express telling me Hardware acceleration was
not available....

Having a prod about I ran DXDiag and have found that the DX7 Direct3D test
fails:-
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT =
0x8007000e (Out of memory)

DirectDraw and AGP Texture Acceleration are shown as unavailable and the GFX
car memory is shown as n/a

The DX8 & 9 tests work fine..

I've tried reinstalling the GFX card drivers, Chipset drivers and DirectX
but have had no joy so far..

Any ideas ? TIA

WinXP Home SP2, all patches applied.

Perhaps the video card is failing. Swap it out for a known-working one
and if that solves the problem, replace the original card. If you don't
have the extra video card lying around, take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of
BigStoreUSA).

Hi,

I've tried the card in another rig I have here and it seemed fine, also
DX 8 and 9 apps run fine ?!

Then to be sure it isn't hardware, try a different card in the computer
that doesn't work well. Perhaps the AGP slot is faulty. If another card
gives similar results, you know the issue is on the motherboard. Or you
might want to check on one of the ATI forums. And of course there's
always the question to answer: did the functions of this card ever work
correctly? If yes, what changed?

Hi,

Could be theport I suppose, I've tried a Geforce3 in here and that
showed the same problem, was kinda thinking though if the OS or DX is shot
then it would anyway...

Gonna post on VIA & Rage3D today, cheers..

Yeah they did one when I first installed, one of the first things I
check when doing an install, not too sure at what point things started to go
wrong really, I tend to work on an "If it aint broke don't fix it"
philosophy so my system is quite stable, I'm almost resigned to the fact I'm
gonna have to format now :(

Cheers...

Don't format (software solution) until you are quite sure it isn't a
hardware problem.

Hi Malke,

Well I took the plunge, made a backup of my data and formatted, long and
short everything is fine now, all my apps work again and DXDiag shows
everything enabled, so I guess something got a tad screwed along the lines
somewhere, dammed if I know what done it though, the only thing my system
has seen new was OpenOffice, cant see that killing DX in such a big way.....

Anyway mate thanks for your time, very much appreciated !!

Laters,
Mart.
