Ok, in about 2 weeks I should have an internal DVD burner installed in this
machine (WXP). It will be used for full system backups and for making slide
shows. I'll be having to lean what it can do and how it does. The main thing
I wonder about is how / or is there a program that sets up a menu on one
(like the movie DVD's I have) that allows the user to play it or can they
just be set to auto run?

As you can tell I have a lot to lean.

I've never really found a piece of freeware that does this well enough. I
was using DVDstyler which did all you need, but it could only use mpegs and
not AVI's which meant converting them first and I must say, was flakey to
say the least. Someone here will have something, but there won't be much of
a choice to do it one sweep. I'm ok now as I use something else with amazing
results, but can you post here if you find anything?

Autorun is used in computers, not in DVD stand-alone players.
For DVD authoring I would suggest DVDstyler or DVDauthorgui (the difference
is in the gui).
For slideshows use

Also a gui for dvdauthor.

Thanks, I downloaded that one, will try it out when I get the dvd burner
installed and some blank disks, as I said, I'm still learning about these
thingys.

This is a freeware program for creating slidshows

DVD slideshow GUI

Produce and author DVD slideshows!
Animate images. Add music. Add avi's. Rescale image size.
Add background Add music. Add texts. Add borders.
Add textbox. Set exposition time. Set transition time.
Choose between 140 transitions. Export the slideshow to
