DVD part 2

S

Starlord

I got the DVD burner today, I shut down my system, removed the CD Burner and
replaced it with the DVD burner, ( OptoRite DD0401) and I re-powered up. I
saw nothing from windows saying I had new hardware online. When I checked
the system, it doesn't even see the device. I tried to use the add hardware
but once more it's not even seen. And yes, before you ask, all cables are
hooked up. On boot up the read light does go on a few seconds. But when I
placed a Music CD I had burned before, it does not auto play the music files
as it did with the CD Burner.

I've tried to find the driver for it, but every link I find for it goes to
one site and that site doesn't come up, I just get timed out after 5 mins of
waiting for it.

I'm running Windows XP Home spc.pack #2 on a old Dell 750 mhz pent.3
machine.

Anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

Go into Device Manager and uninstall any CD\DVD devices.
Reboot your machine to see if windows finds new hardware.

Be sure that the device select jumpers of the back of the new drive match
the setting (master/slave/cable select) on the old drive.

I pulled it out, the jumpers where the same for the CD Burner I had in the
machine, so after trying it again and no, windows didn't see it, even after
un-installing the old drive, I pulled it out again and moved the one jumper
from slave to cable select, rebooted and windows saw it and installed it as
a genartic 8x dvd burner. So far it's played the music cd fine. Next month
I'll have to buy a pack of dvd's and test burn one of them.

I'd do it sooner than that, if I were you. Then if it didn't work you
could return it.

As much as I'd like to test burn a DVD, there's the little road block in the
way, I live on a fixed income and right now I'm down to the lowest level,
can't even go to the store in my car, will have to walk if I need to go.(8
mile round trip).
