dvd writer

hi can anyone help im running xp home edition and have an lg gsa-4081b dvd
writer. my dvd wrtier will read normal cd-r and music disks but will not read
any dvds at all be they dvd-r or dvd+r or proper dvds bought from a shop
please help me i have just found an error log in xp that says bad block on cd
rom hellllllllppppppp

Cannot read store bought DVD (Data or movie ones?)
Could be a bad DVD drive.. How's the warranty?
