DVD sound problem

My Cd's all play fine but when it comes to playing a DVD
the sound is irregular and choppy. This happens on all
DVD's - music and film. I am running Windows xp
sytem.HELP!!!!!!

The DVD may be producing music in 48khz, 24 bit format
and your sound card may only handle up to 44.1khz and
only 16 bit audio. See if your DVD software has a
downsampling option, and set it to 44khz 16 bit if
possible.
