DVD seen as CD

Other posts haven't helped. I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR 107D and XP.
Device Manager lists the DVD as above but explorer gives it as CD Drive. The
DVD will play a dvd disc such as a film but rejects dvd discs for recording
saying its the wrong media ie it expects a CD or CD-RW disc. It was working
ok yesterday but very suddenly adopted this behaviour. I thought it might
have something to do with Nero but have uninstalled Nero and its still the
same. I think it must be a registry problem but do not know what to look for.
Any help appreciated.

Am not in the habit of using the wizard for Nero, so what you may see may be
different. Using the Nero standard interface, you have to select whether
you're using DVD or CD in the upper left-hand corner in later versions of
Nero that can work with DVD writing media.
After uninstalling Nero, assuming you have no other DVD writing software,
the behavior is expected.

Thanks

I have been through the Microsoft docs but can't see anything relevant.

As far as Nero is concerned it asks which burner you want to use so I choose
Pioneer dvd but when it comes to burning that has been changed to Pioneer
CD-RW so it rejects the disc.

XP windows is now showing the drive as DVD until I put a blank disc in it
and then it changes to CD drive.I have corrected the system aspi files as there was an error but that has
changed the problem and I have upgraded the firmware.

Still can't find why its being treated as a cd drive only.

Don't know if it'll help, but have you considered upgrading the firmware in
the burner to the latest version, which is version 1.21 (according to
Pioneer's UK web site)?

if you have the Shell Hardware Detection Service disabled then DVD Drives
will show up as CD Drives in explorer; they still work just fine however.

FWIW, I like having SHD disabled, it eliminates annoying insert
notifications.
