f drive problem, windows media and music match reports no disc in
drive, when I attempt to burn a cd, problem is , there is a disc in
f drive, which is designated as the cd drive and the disc type is a
cdr

- Make/model of your DVD-RW (+/-?) drive?
- Tried removing it from Device Manager and rebooting?
- Checked for firmware updates for the drive itself?

came with my compaq presario I think its a sony

Make/Model of the presario at least?

came with my compaq presario I think its a son

I think its a 6300 series

I wouldn't GUESS with such things and I suppose the answer to my other two
questions are 'no' and 'what?'?
If the answer to the other two questions are not 'no' and 'what?' <-- would
you mind answering them?

None of this indicates you even have a CD burner - much less a DVD burner.
All you seem to have is a 48X CD-ROM (Read Only - no write capabilities of
any kind.) To me it looks like you are expecting a drive to do something it
cannot do - you do not seem to even have the hardware that is remotely
capable of doing what you are attempting... You seem to have - according to
what you have given here and assuming it is at all accurate: Asus CD-S480/A4
48X CD-ROM or Cyber/Argus 48x CD-ROM.
