DVD-RW/CD-RW Combo is not recognized

I run a Compaq Presario 3000+ and my DVD-RW/CD-RW Combo is not
recognized.
It worked fine and then one day the DVD-RW/CD-RW disc locked up, i
rebooted and the drive opened up OK.
Now my PC is not able to read, write, burn, or copy to the (F drive.
I get msgs such as "no disc in drive", "drive not ready", "F not
responding", or "waiting for disc".
I think this could have happened after IE7 was installed but i'm not
sure about that..
I reinstalled the driver, that didn't help. Drive (E works fine.
Appreciate any help i can get.

Likely that drive just died.

They're so cheap now that the only thing that makes any sense is to replace it.

I think this could have happened after IE7
was installed but i'm not sure about that..
