DVD-Rom not working properly

I have a Samsung SD-612 DVD-Rom in my system. I'm using XP/SP2. It always
worked fine previously (even after SP2) but now it will not read DVDs. It
reads CDs fine. Device Manager reports it as being a DVD-Rom and
Properties gives all the DVD settings (DVD Region). However, when I open
My Computer it shows as being a CD-Rom rather than a DVD-Rom (it used to
show there as being a DVD-Rom). I tried removing it from Device Manager
and rebooting to allow Windows to reinstall it, but no joy. Still the same
thing. Not sure what to do next. Any help greatly appreciated.

Reinstall your DVD software..... PowerDVD or WinDVD whichever came with your
PC.

Other software would not recognize it as a DVD-Rom either. I had InCD
Reader installed, uninstalled that per a suggestion in another NG and that
seems to have solved the problem. Thanks.
