DVD r/w drive lost by my pc

I came home to find that my pc has lost my dvd r/w drive. The drive is
still there, the computer just doesn’t seem to know how to find it.
The driver comes up as being up to date. I tried uninstalling and
rebooting and it comes up the same each time. The SCSI device also
shows up as being lost. Any ideas as to what to do? I once had this
problem with Nero putting up an image drive but this time that
doesn’t seem to be the case as Nero says image drive is disabled.

I had a similar problem with a new install of DVD r/w drive recently.
It recognized the drive but not that it was a r/w drive.

Finally, when I hooked it up as the master drive on that cable (had been
using cable-select), XP finally recognized it as what it was.

May or may not work for you but something to try anyway ...
