DVD R/W does not like to release CDs

For some reason, of late, the DVD R/W drive on my Win2k PC does not want to
release CDs most of the time. I will put in a CD with data on it or a CD to
record, and the only way I can get the door to open is to restart the PC and
THEN hit the button while rebooting. I don't see any apps that would be
locking the drive, and have tried killing various processes to see if it
would free up the drive. Direct CD is also acting flakey and will copy
about 1/10th of a file onto the CD and then just stall.

Roxio! It doesn't work very well with W2K, it completely highjacks your
cd drives, it takes forever to copy anything, some of the copying it
does can only be read on machines that have Roxio installed, in other
words it isn't worth 2 cents! If you don't let Direct CD finish its job
you can't get access to the drive that's assured. The problem is it
takes forever to finish and close jobs. It needs to start a bizillion
services to do anything. It's pure junk! As if that's not bad enough
getting rid of it can be nothing short of a nightmare, it writes about
fifty million entries to the registry and when you remove Roxio your cd
drives quit altogether! Ok, millions and bizillions might be an
exaggeration but so is the claim that is isn't worth 2 cents, in fact it
isn't worth 1 cent.
