DVD Problem

I don't have a DVD player for my TV but I do have one for my PC. I guess
I'm a little behind the times, but I have 1 DVD movie which I thought I'd
play on my PC, but it won't play. It says I need a digital decoder. Is
that something I have to purchase and install? I was using Windows Media
Player and Roxio DVD player. Using Windows XP Home Edition.
Help please..and thanks.

There should have been some software that went along with the DVD drive.
WinDVD or PowerDVD are both common. Install that software and you should be
OK.

You do need a 'codec' for it. Windows itself comes without one, though
I would have thought the Roxio player would have it (if that is a hold
over from Upgrading to XP, try reinstalling it; the upgrade is likely to
have uninstalled the codec).

There are various sources for codecs, some free, but I think you then
get what you pay for. One suggestion is at
http://www.cineplayer.com/decoder/default.htm
for $14.99
