Where Can I find open source MPEG-2 codec for DVD player

Hello, I'm new at understanding what codec I need that will work with WMP 11
and realplayer 11 and my Nero player so that each one will work when I want
to watch a DVD movie?? I need MPEG-2 codec so my internal DVD player will
play my DVD movies? My WMP 11 and my Realplayer 11 used to open and play my
DVD movies, now the players open up but no picture or sound? When I select
My Nero player (thats the CD softwear program that came with my DVD/CD
player) Nero says now, that I need to buy MPEG-2 from them for 45.00 !!
Thats way to much for one program!! Where can I find free open soures codec
that I need ?? Please give me the web site name and the name of the codec
program that will work? And not miss up the way I can watch videos from web
sites now.
All three players will open and play my music CD great so that part is
working fine. I hope some people can give me a good answer. Thanks for all
the help.

Sorry, I'm not advocating any codecs, but google 'codec pack' or 'codec
packs' and you'll get hits to keep you busy for weeks. I've never had
to install any to get dvd's to play. However I don't play a lot on my
pc, I leave that to my DVD player at the TV.

However I do advocate http://www.headbands.com/gspot
Use this gspot program to list what codecs you do have loaded.
I also like this player and it seems to play a lot video that other
programs don't:

I do notice that it says it supports MPEG-2. Loading VLC may load
codecs for you, and this alone might fix your Nero. You may not have
to use VLC, but I find it fills the holes for a lot of odd AVI's etc
that I download.

Thanks for replying to my questions? Thanks for all the help. I have
another ?, by installing these codec's will my WMP 11 or realplayer 11 or my
Nero player (softwear that came with my DVD/CD device) still open and play
CD music?? And will I still beable to go to web sites and watch their videos
using their video player like at youtube and veoh and news web sites so I can
still see the news videos? I don't know if downloading these codec will not
let me to continue to see videos at web sites or are these codec just for
watching my DVD movies?? Thanks for understanding.
