dvd player

when I try to play a dvd, it says that I need to install
the software first. I recently re-installed xp pro, but
have not played a dvd on the new installtion. Any help?

Due to licenceing fee's Windows has never been able to play DVD's without
the help of third party software.

You'll need a DVD decoder installed on the machine to view DVD movies.
There are several companies that make them such as Cyberlink.
