The device driver may have been corrupted.. Try first Restoring the System..
If it doesn't help, reinstal the drive as follows; Right click on My
Computer\Manage\Device Manager\right click on the DVD device and select
"Uninstall"... restart the computer and wait a minute or two for it to
auto-install, and see if the DVD functions have been restored. If that
doesn't help, update the driver in the Device Manager\DVD Drive\right click
Update Driver... If the drive has been using the Windows Driver,.. accept
the "Yes, only this time" option to allow the program to search Windows
Update for an updated version of the installed driver... if no success, and
you have an installation CD for the DVD Drive, restart the driver update in
Device Manager and this time select "Not for the moment" click Next, and
select "Install from a specified list (advanced)", click Next and check to
search in the CD/DVD-Drive with the installation CD inserted. If nothing so
far, go to the DVD drive maker's website and click on Downloads, to search
for an updated driver for the DVD Drive Model.
