My dvd drive keeps opening and shutting on its own accord. I have done a check for viruses and spyware but still has not fixed the problem.

I have disabled the drive and it still does it.

I have no clue as to what is wrong.

I can play dvd's, music and games.

HELP PLEASE AS IT IS DRIVING ME MAD.

If you have indeed done extensive nasties obliteration's then fear not ... your drive itself is at fault, who is the drive manufacturer? :)

Just so we know, what AV & anti-spyware software have you tried?

I did the spyware check with the online one with the forum. It took hours. Cleared everything and still it does it. Cleaned all the dust out of it.

You can buy new DVD-ROM drives for as little as £10-£12 these days (any black faced one will do you) - just shut down the PC, remove the old one and put in the new one - reboot and bobs your uncle :thumb:

If it stays shut while in use then indeed it is a drive 'problem' and not outside interference ... as stated, easy enough to replace, but, I wouldn't bother buying a DVD-Rom drive ... I would buy another DVD-RW, again, cheap as chips. ;)

Make a note on the jumper on the back of the drive, if you replace it, as it will/may be sharing an IDE channel with either your HD or the other CD drive. Cable select should be avoided, use master/slave settings via the jumper.

It stays shut while in use. I cannot open and shut it using the button. It will eject if you go via My computer.

LoL ... if that were mine, I would just wait for it to die completely before replacing it ... it'll probably last a long time.

Consolation is, it ain't no nastie on the PC just an err, inferior drive. ;)

If its an error, inferior drive how do i correct it then.

I would rather not replace it if it can be fixed but i cannot stand the draw keep opening and shutting.

Cheers for the reply.
