DVD drive not see by XP

A friend has a computer with XP home edition on it.

Suddenly one day he was unable to see the DVD driive

We have tried reinstalling
replacing the cable
double checking connections between motherboard and dvd

We know it works because we have removed it from that PC and put it in
another. The other PC picked it up no problem.

I turned to www.kellys-korner-xp.com

DVD - Missing in the Device Manager

Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values
completely from the above registry key.

here they suggest editing the registry but when we look there the class does
not have the upperfilter and lowerfilter values mentioned.

What do we do next ---- It's driving me mad.

Regards

Dee

But did you try the drive from the other PC in the 'bad' computer?

I don't fully understand??
the other PC is in another house. Did you mean networking them together?

Ahhhh I get you now sorry it was late when I read that post.

The other PC does not have a DVD we put it in an empty slot
