DVD drive is recognized as a CD drive

I have a Sony DVD DRU-700A that is being recognized as a CD drive. The
interesting thing is that when I create a DVD using Nero, I can do it on
that drive. I checked "my computer" and it shows the drive is a CD drive...
WTF?

I have the same thing with my DVD drive. Sometimes Windows'll think it's a
DVD drive, and other times it'll think it's a CD drive. I figure, hey, if it
works like it's supposed to, the name Windows gives it doesn't really
matter... Unless, of course, it won't let you play DVD's. Is that the case?

this is "normal", if you have the Shell Hardware Detection service
disabled, which is an often recommended tweak (mine is). However, it's
just the name displayed in explorer that's "wrong", it'll still do DVD
things just fine. Don't worry, be happy...
