DVD disk

A couple of weeks ago I was sent a disk (cd rom) from
microsoft called "Do Amazing Things with Windows XP, Yes
You Can". I've tried over and over to get the darned
thing to spin up so I can see what's on it but I can't
get it to go no matter what I do. My cd rom drive table
is okay as all my other disc's spin up in it. Anyone else
with xp home have this same trouble and did you find a
solution? My unit's a Dell 2350 desk top. Thanx for any
help. Dave L. F.

The "Do More Amazing Things" is recorded on a DVD. If you do not
have a DVD player installed, it will not work. CD Drives cannot read
DVDs.

Dave,

I relaise this may seem an odd thing to ask.

But the "Do Amazing Things..." disk is a DVD, not a CD ROM.

Does your PC have a DVD drive or just a CD ROM ?

I'm just asking becasue the 2350 comes with differing options of Dual
optical drive bays with your choice of CD-ROM, CD-Burner, DVD-ROM, and/or
CD-RW/DVD-ROM combination drive, and DVD+RW/+R drives

If you mean this http://shop.microsoft.com/special/awe/dvd.asp , and based
on your subject line, it's a DVD. You mention "My cd rom drive table is
okay" leading me to believe you're putting this disc into a CD ROM drive.
This of course won't work. You'd need a DVD drive to view this disc.

If this was an unsolicited mailing from Microsoft, DON'TUSE IT AGAIN until
you confirm its authenticity !!! It is my understanding that Microsoft does
NOT send e-mails or software unless asked for by the recipient or part of a
support call (which I had). Also, you may want to get a spyware detection
program, like Adaware, as your attempted running of the CD/DVD may have
installed nasties on your system.

With computer purchases, should be no problem. If it was ordered, again,
should be no problem-at least as far as viruses and spybots go. But the way
I interpreted Dave's post is that he got this in the mail without expecting
it. I have been reading on these NG's that one or more miscreants have been
sending stuff like this under the guise of Microsoft; Microsoft has the
policy of NOT send things like this out of the blue. If I am wrong and find
out, apologies will be forthcoming.
