DVD Disc not found

Marcus

I have a Sony Vaio GRT816S using XP Home SP2, with a pioneer combined DVD
RW/CD RW drive.

Everything has been working OK, now suddenly for no apparent reason any
inserted blank DVD is not recognised.
I am using JVC DVD-R discs and have, until now, successfully written several
video and data dvds.
The computer recognises and reads pre-recorded DVDs and reads and writes
CDs.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive, using device manager
to no avail.

Sony's only suggestion so far is to wipe the computer and reinstall
everything from scratch - by the time I've managed that, the computer will
probably be obsolete.

Any help appreciated.

Locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider On
the Edit menu, click Permissions . Click the registry key for the user that
is currently logged on and ensure that Read and Full Control are both set to
Allow . Click the Advanced button, ensure that the user that is currently
logged on is selected, that Full Control is listed in the Permissions
column, and that This Key and Subkeys is listed in the Apply to column.
Click to select the Replace permission entries on all child objects with
entries shown here that apply to child objects check box. Click Apply , and
then click Yes when you receive a prompt to continue. Click OK , and then
click OK again
