DVD-ROM dosen't play DVDs

My DVD player doesn't seem to read DVDs but it reads burned CD-Rs, CD-RWs
and regular music CDs.
What might be the problem?

My PC is a Sony VAIO RX-560 & it includes:
-Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-117R
-Sony CD-RW CRX175E
-Windows XP Home
