Hi Computer experts,

I can't find my dvd/cd rom icon in "my computer" and instead i have a Local
disk drive with a question mark on it that says D:\ this refers to a to a
location that is unavailable. In my device manager and next to my Dvd/ cdrom
drive i have a question mark and it says the device cannot start (code 10)

could you please give me some ideas on how to fix it.

thank you

[[Code 10
If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string
appears as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry
string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you
receive the following error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Recommended resolution
Device failed to start. Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this
device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to
start the Troubleshooting Wizard. ]]

Is this Optical drive a Read Only - Not a recorder ? You can
sometimes get errors of this kind when what's called Upper or
Lower Filter drivers are missing or not loaded. You can check
this by double-clicking the Optical in DVD/CD category, then
click the Driver (Tab) and finally the Driver Details box. It will
give you a list of all drivers. Click each one (Single Click to
select) and it will show the authorship of the driver (Microsoft,
Nero, Roxio...) which can tell you if Upper/Lower Filters are
required.
