DVD & CD Not recognized after update

I am running a Gateway AMD desktop that has recently
stopped recognizing my DVD and CD-RW. I get the message
telling me that the device has been improperly ejected,
which is impossible as they are both internal devices and
I are securely connected (I opened the case just to be
sure). This started happening sometime after I installed
the following Windows 2000 Updates - 817606, 819696,
822679, 823559, 823980

Anyone who has seen this before please let me know.

Hi Scott

Have you tried to delete these two Devices in the Device Manager and then
restarting your PC?

Hi Fabio,

I sure have! After SP3 update my LiteOn LTN242 and my
Smart and Friendly CD/RW 4224A don't work. I had hoped
the SP4 update would fix it. No luck.

I have removed both devices and rebooted and they always
come back, but only with a caution/exlamation symbol. Any
ideas?
