Duplicate name exists on the network

I'm getting the "Duplicate name exists on the network" error message, but
there are, actually, no other computers with the same name on this network.
What can be causing this error message aside from a duplicate computer name?

Thanks.

I would check your computer accounts maybe an old inactive one in there
causing the problem

Do you have a WINS server on your network? Delete the old entries for the
machine name causing the problem.

Thanks, but there are no WINS servers running on this network. When names
are resolved by broadcast, are the resolved names stored in cache someplace?

Thanks, I will see if this helps.

The master browser keeps the list (usually the domain controller). Try:
"nbtstat -R" from the command line (on the master browser) - that will purge
the cache.

Make sure the internal nic is on top in the binding order. Also make sure
you have done the regedits as per 292822.

The internal nic is already on top. Even though I'm not getting the error
messages described in 292822, I have found a wealth of information, which
could, in turn, help me solve this issue once and for all. Thank you,
Marina.
