Duplicate icons on the desktop

Im having trouble with duplicate icons on the desktop. When I have some
icons in the All users desktop, they wont show on user A's desktop. But when
I move the icons out of the All users desktop into user A's desktop, there
will be two icons of the same shortcut. If I delete one of the icons, both
icons of the same shortcut will delete. Has anyone seen this before? I have
deleted the profile and created a new one, but it does the same thing. User
A is an admin on the machine in case that helps...

Follow this advice, courtesy of David Candy:

Open Registry Editor and navigate to the locations below
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]
Set the value of Desktop to %USERPROFILE%\Desktop

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]
Set the value of Common Desktop to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop
Close Registry Editor and restart Windows.
