Dump spy/other scanners?

Adela,
I, also, think that AVG [Free] is good, however, I would use it in
conjunction with some [free] anti-spyware program like SpyBot S&D and
SpwareBlaster. Personally, I believe these three programs are very good at
PREVENTING attacks from ever reaching your system. But if the system does
become compromised, then, very few [free] programs are going to be able to
sort it out for you. One is MalwareBytes (Mbam) that is very good at
repairing and removing offending malware, AFTER it has invaded your system.
I think that all these [free programs have their place and not to trust in
just one and certainly NOT to trust software just because it comes with an
expensive price tag.

Thank you Ron. I think you're right. I do have a good AV, the AVG free,
and I'll leave in probably Malwarebyte and SUPERantiSpyware or ad
catching, and will delete many of the others. I also have MS Defender and
some other MS scanners too. Thanks again. Adela

P.S. Strange - I answered you and Peter 2 days ago. They appeared in my
"Sent Items" but not in this forum(???) So I'm bringing them here. :o)

Pick one AV program and one or maybe two of the spyware programs and get
rid of the rest. I use Malwarebyte because it is a good program and they
update their definitions frequently. I just ran it and in two and a
half days, they updated 12 times.

Hello All, is it true what I was told by an acquaintance that the
scanner
SUPERAntiSpy isn't necessary to keep since nowadays the (I don't
recall which he mentioned (could be MS?)) catches any spies and other
undesirables before they penetrate?

I'd love to get rid of these hungry programs as I must save my not very
strong RAM. If I do get rid of them, I could always scan, if I need, by
going to their own websites? Right now I have the following scanners or
antis (could someone tell me which ones are superfluous?):

SUPERantiSpy; Malwarebytes; spybot S&D (which never ever finds bad
files!); SpywareBlaster; ie-spyad; Java 6 updated 3.

Thanks so much for any suggestions. Adela

Oh I'm sorry, I guess I got confused! Also I noticed this thread came up at
the top of the list. I don't know what I did. Thanks for your help!

When I have a little more time I'll go to see the other AVs you so kindly
suggested. :o) Adela

Hi Tim and thank you for explaining so that I know now free AVs don't take
care of the mess once the puter has been compromised. I'll go to explore a
few AVs that Peter sugested and I may change it. While I've deleted Spybot
S&D because it never found a single bad file in several years, I'll leave in
SpywareBlaster , SUPERAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes (happy to know it will
repair the mess after an invasion) :o) and ie-spyad.

Thanks again for your help! Adela
