dublicate and confusing files

I just started using xp last week. It seems that when I make a document it
is duplicated in one or two places. Frequently I can't find the doc. It
there any way to turn this function off. I am the sole user and it seems
that the program is set up for multiple users. Don't need it.

Are you referring to the My Documents folder? If not, mention which folders
contain the duplicate files.

The system is fundamentally designed for multiple users. To that end
each has its own
C:\Documents and Settings\username\MyDocuments
folder, and when a user logs on the simple 'My Documents' on the
desktop, and used in Open and Save as is pointed to the relevant folder

Not duplicates - different routes of access
