Dual OS (WINME & XP); 2 hard drives

Am installing on my PC. C drive is a new WD 80 gig unit.
Slave is the original 40 gig unit. Currently running
WINME. Question 1 - Will installing XP effect my data on
drive D, the slave? Ques. 2 - What steps do I need to
take to retain ME and install XP, if possible?

just by asking these questions...I highly recommend that you have someone
who knows what they are doing work on your PC....

You can dual boot. ME must be installed on the root of C: It is recommend
that XP be installed on a different partition. As long as you don't format
the drive during the install, data will be safe. To have the XP drive
visible when booted to ME, leave the XP drive as FAT32

A few Caveats before you "dual boot"
ME must be on the "C" drive
XP must be a fresh new installation onto any drive/partition that does NOT
have ME on it
XP will overwrite the boot sector of the :C: drive in order to give you dual
boot.
You will not be able to format "C" without losing the ability to boot at all
Removing ME will be very hard..........but not impossible
All programs that you wish to run under both OS need to be installed twice
...once under each OS

I dual booted for aprox 3 months in order to see if I liked XP and all its
capable of.
I used "C" partition strictly for ME....."D" partition strictly for XP and
"E" for all programs...and still had problems getting rid of ME.I finally
just reinstalled XP into "C" formatting "C" and "D" during the process.
