Dual Booting

My computer is running windows xp home right now. I have a cd with 98
Se and I want to dual boot my machine.

My thought was to split my hdd so that the ntfs partition had 15 gb,
the fat32 had 15 gb and they shared access to another fat32 with 10gb.

Now, I know I need partition magic to set up the partitions like this,
but how exactly would I set up the boot menu? That's really what I
need to know here.

Hi,

The boot menu can be setup as described here:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_9x.htm

Though you may wish to consider using Boot Magic (from the makers of
Partition Magic), as the native boot Doug describes requires the boot
partition to be FAT32. Boot managers can get around this little problem.

If you haven't purchased PM yet, there are some cheaper alternatives:

BootIT NG www.terabyteunlimited.com
Partition Commander http://www.v-com.com/product/pc_ind.html
Ranish Partition Manager http://www.ranish.com/part/

If you are getting Partition Magic anyway, I would use the Boot Magic
that comes with it as the boot manager, with one boot item pointing at
the XP and one at the 98. That keeps them quite separate, and is easier
than doing it through the XP boot.ini once that has been installed on
NTFS.

Your other choice is to start over, install the 98 first (And I would
keep its partition just under 8GB to have the 4K cluster size in the FAT
32), then install the XP by running the CD from the 98, taking new
install, and when it asks where, hitting ESC and making the NTFS
partition for the XP at that point. This sets up the dual boot - and
you do not need PM, just the FDISK of 98, starting by deleting the
'non-DOS' (NTFS) partition
