Dual Boot Vista and Ubuntu Linux

This question is for anyone that has sucessfully dual booted vista and
ubuntu linux.
Here's my scenario:

AMD Athlon64 3400+ (running overclocked at 2.6 Ghz)
1 GB PC3200
2 x 232.88 GB IDE Hard Drives
GeForce 7600GS 512 mb AGP

I have vista installed on the first hard drive along with my essential data.
i have the second hard drive partitioned into 212.88 GB and 20 GB
partitions. The 212.88 GB partition has my non-essential data and the 20 GB
partition is empty.

Here's what i want to know:
If i install ubuntu linux to the 20 GB partition, will GRUB overwrite the
vista bootloader and make unable to boot vista? or, will GRUB work in
conjuction with the vista bootloader, making it possible to boot both
OS's?(This is the result that i hope happens) and with that said, if the
result is the first of the two possibilities, how do i restore the vista
bootloader and make my system able to boot both operating systems?

Normally grub will takes over and becomes the boot manager. It will create
entries for any Windows installations you have. Ubuntu will be the default
but this is easily changed.

As always makes sure you have a backup before installing a new OS.

No, that is what Vista or any version of windows would do: overwrite
bootloader in complete ignorance of other operating systems and only load
itself. Linux and grub do not do this.

The master boot sector is overwritten to point to grub, however it will
work together with other operating systems no matter what these operating
systems are. So after you install, you will have your Ubuntu install and
Windows install as a choice when you boot up with the default being
Ubuntu. But the default can be changed without a problem if you wish to
do so.

If you install Ubuntu Linux, it will either overwrite the MBR or not -
depending on whether or not you tell it to. If it does not, you won't be
able to easily boot to it (though you still can by using the install CD to
boot from disk). If you tell it to and it does, then it will set up a dual
boot allowing you to easily boot either vista or Ubuntu.

You may want to consider using a 3rd party boot manager such as the free
EasyBDC, that way if you choose to delete one of the OSes later, it will
not muck with your boot loader and you will still be able to get back
into the other os(es) with no problems.
